About the Opportunity
A confidential international cruise line is seeking a skilled and motivated Assistant Pastry Chef to join its culinary team at sea. This position offers the chance to work in a dynamic, multicultural environment, delivering high-quality pastry and bakery products to thousands of guests daily.
Key Responsibilities for Assistant Pastry Chef on Cruise
- Assist the Pastry Chef in preparing a wide variety of pastries, cakes, and desserts according to cruise line standards and guest preferences.
- Ensure all pastries and desserts are made with the highest quality, presentation, taste, and consistency.
- Support in the development and testing of new dessert recipes for the cruise menu.
- Oversee cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the pastry kitchen in compliance with maritime health and safety standards.
- Guide and support pastry team members, fostering a collaborative and positive work culture.
- Work efficiently to meet production schedules and service requirements onboard.
- Maintain inventory control for pastry supplies and report needs to management.
- Deliver excellent guest service by responding to special requests and dietary requirements.
Requirements for Cruise Assistant Pastry Chef Jobs
- Minimum 2 years of professional pastry or baking experience in hotels, cruise lines, or high-volume restaurants.
- Culinary degree or relevant certification in baking and pastry arts is preferred.
- Knowledge of international pastry techniques, plated desserts, chocolate work, and breads.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Adaptable, positive, and proactive attitude; able to work well under pressure.
- Good communication skills in English; additional languages are an advantage.
- Willingness to live and work onboard a cruise ship for extended periods.

Daily Tasks and Responsibilities on a Cruise Ship Pastry Team
- Prepare, bake, and finish pastries, cakes, tarts, cookies, and other desserts for multiple dining venues.
- Support in set-up, service, and breakdown of dessert buffets and special events on the cruise.
- Assist with training new team members and support cross-department collaboration.
- Ensure all work areas are in strict compliance with HACCP and cruise food safety regulations.
Requirements
Proven experience in a pastry or bakery leadership role (hotel, resort, or cruise experience preferred).
Solid knowledge of pastry techniques, bread baking, and dessert preparation.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
Good English communication skills (mandatory).
Additional Requirements
Must be willing to live and work onboard for a minimum of 6 months away from home.
Valid passport and US C1/D visa required.
Must pass a pre-employment English test.
Successful completion of a medical examination as per maritime standards.
